Learn To Sing Like An American Idol
If you want to learn to sing just like the people who appear on American Idol and all those other types of TV talent shows you need to start with the basics. If you can’t afford to take voice lessons, you can use the following tips to teach yourself how to sing.
Choose The Right Song For Your Voice
You should know how your own voice sounds, so you will know what sort of song will compliment your vocals. If you like jazz, pick a good well known jazz song from a famous artist like Ella Fitzgerald or Frank Sinatra. If you like country songs pick a song by someone like Carrie Underwood. She has some great powerful songs which are great for singers with big voices.
Whatever song you choose, make sure your voice is best suited to that genre. If you are not sure, get a friend to listen to you sing or record your voice and try and be really critical of your own sound. You definitely do not want to waste time singing songs that are too high, too low or songs that have more trills and flicks than you can handle. Leave that stuff to Beyonce and Mariah Carey.
Learn Your
Every singer needs to know all the words of their songs without exception. There is simply no excuse for stumbling over song phrasing or missing out words. If you don’t have the complete lyrics, then try and Google it. You should be able to find almost any song lyric on the internet.
Once you print off a copy, learn to recite the words without the melody as if you are learning a poem. This way you can separate the words from the melody and the words will stick in your memory much better. This sort of thing should be done prior to taking voice lessons. This way you will not be wasting precious money or time on something that you can do at home on your own.
Learning the song lyrics as if it were a poem also helps you to actually look at the meaning of the words, which helps you to get the right emotions when you are singing. An audience wants to see that you are feeling the words you are singing, that you are conveying the words and messages to them and telling them a story. Good examples of this is when Celine Dion sings. You can truly believe her. The same can be said of Josh Groban too. 
These are a few tips to think about and to use if you want to learn to sing but can’t quite afford regular voice lessons yet. Listen to how the famous singing artists do it and try and copy their technique. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy singing.
